Dad grew up on a farm, but became a preacher. I had always wanted to go with him, so on September 11, 2001 we left Omaha early. We were just about to interstate when my wife calls and says a plane had hit a building in NYC. We thought small plane, kept on going. Not too much later she calls again to say a second plane had hit a second building. NOW we turned on the radio. We kept going, not knowing how to react. There was a huge state patrol/police presence-not sure if it was more than normal as we had never been there-but it was HUGE. Grounds were virtually empty, venders with radios and TVS all had them playing the news. My farmer friend had a Kinze planter that raised and rotated for transport-I had never seen that operation. Found the Kinze booth and asked him to set it for transport-he was SO glad to have something to do! Very surreal! Came back to find my neighborhood gas station was charging $4.999 per gallon for fuel! I cant tell you if its worth the trip because we went on the one 'odd' year.
