: : : Other than good common sense, what would be some general guidelines for having a hayride? I will be using a John Deere Model M and am looking for a smaller wagon to restore. I have been told : : : that it is not a good idea to have more weight (wagon + people) than the weight of the tractor pulling it (Model M about 2550). Hayrides are awhile off as the M is still in pieces but doesn't hurt to : : : daydream. Thanks for any experiences. : : Can you say liability release form? : But LRF may not be enough. You need to watch who's in the crowd, what's their sobriety, make sure the wagon has marker lights visible in all directions (ruins the mood, but puts the liability on the car's driver). You need a private place off the public roads with few ditches and other such hazards for the rack and its occupants to tumble into. : Then you need to attend to the equipment, no splinters, stumbling or tripping points, clean hay, fun entertainment, nice moon light, nice moonlit scenery. Not things I can provide with my WORKING hay racks! : The carnage of a Pontiac Firebird hitting a hay rack of people while flying at 60+ mph is not beautiful to behold. I've seen one such incident keep a dozen lawyers busy for more than half a decade. It may be still going a decade later. Appeals of summary judgements take a long time to resolve. : Gerald A Hayride is unsafe at any speed Gentlemen, besides a LRF you need Crash helmets, safety glasses, hearing protection, seat belts, shoulder straps, air bags, knee pads, fire extinguishers, personal flotation devices, steel toed shoes, roll bars, smoke detecters, radon detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, port-a-johns, hot lunches, anti-lock brakes, metal detectors, blaze orange vests, a CDL, and free condoms. Have fun.
