It got mentioned during the fancy forage harvester/ wagon thread. I've got an ag business degree and find it far from being a waste. A student needs to take stock of where he/she is when they are a college freshman. If the family farm has trouble paying its bills and is deeply mired in debt then one needs to be honest with themselves are far as the chances of turning the family farm around. Then they need to look at if they go ahead with a certain degree such as agronomy or animal husbandry and the family farm is not there several years after college. My ag business degree required credit hours in accounting, business management, and business law to name a few disciplines which can cross apply to other careers besides owning/managing a farm. Further, when I went to college which was during the 1980's farm crisis many lenders let it be known that an ag degree might be the difference between working with a lender or being denied credit. One thing that was clear to me when I went to college was that if I farmed there was not any inheritance or trust fund there to help me farm.
