A couple years ago one of my close friends found a 2150 FWA with the herc. that sucked # 6 sleeve and he came to me wanting to FIX it , well them Hec.'s require a couple special tools to work on them and then like others have said good luck . Well we could fix the block with a repair sleeve that's not the problem so we can do that now to find engine parts , Well after some digging i found parts to do a rebuild ( man are they proud of them Herc. parts) Next to find the couple special tools i looked high and low for just one of them and came up empty handed . So vernon and i sat down and talked about this and we thought about going the Duce and a half multi. fuel 478 . Then he said lets just put a cummins in it , so we did . We found a 8.3 Cummins with the correct rear sump pan the correct injection p[ump for ind. app and it only had a little over 900 hours run time on a gen set and set at 207 Hp.at 1970 RPM . We bought a new flywheel from Maybaugh's made for the last new whites that ran the 8.3 a new starter for the flywheel qand this engine alread had the type 2 SAE bell housing so it would bolt up to the over under and then we found out that we had to make a change to the oil pan so that it would clear the ft. drive shaft . What we did there was to cut the sump off and make a sorta box on the bottom inplace of the sump , we had to shorten the pick up tube and extend it to the read a couple inches and kept it about a 1/4 off the bottom of the WINGED box we made . This box extended back a bit towards the flywheel and out to the sides just enough that it would clear the tub when lowering the engine into the frame , this allowed up not to loose any oil capacity and we placed the drain plug to keep it off to the side away from the ft. drive shaft . Fan hub on this engine had to be moved up to the upper holes already in place and allowed the fan to mount with in a 1/2 inch of stock location . Ya had to trim the fan shroud a bit . Make up- four engine mounts buy one special hose from Cummins for the bottom of the block do a little rewiring and it was a done deal . Total cost in the job with engine and all the pieces and parts came in at a grand less then it would have cost to rebuild . Yep she is NOT as from the factory but it is not a show toy it is back in the field working , She is a big clumsy old beast , she is heavy does not turn short and it does not give up . For us it is the best bunker packing leveling tractor we have to use . I have a few pictures of her on my Photo bucket account .
