You may need to adjust the position of the third brush for the correct charge current but that shouldn't be hard to do.
One drawback is that because the voltage has increased, so will the current through the coil and any lights on the tractor. The coil will probably be able to handle the extra current but you could use a ballast resistor to drop the voltage back down to what the coil is used to seeing. Lights are a problem -- the extra current will dramatically decrease the life expectancy of the bulbs.
