I think he means in the middle of where the chain contacts the sprocket. If the chain is worn it will be longer than the tooth spacing.
327 is a light duty baler, but still a good baler.
I'd look at the knives, check the hay dogs and twine guides and knotters. Chain is cheap to replace. Look for bale chamber wear. If the resistors are worn out its had a lot of bales through it and the plunger may be well worn.
Check the flywheel. If it is loose it may be hard to get it tight and it may break shear pins regularly. Check the stop that prevents the plunger from hitting the needles. If it shows a lot of wear there have been problems.
Check needle brake and knotter drive gear, run it through by hand and make sure it trips to tie.
Make sure pickup isn't bent and torn up. If the guards are missing or worn it may be a continuing problem.
