Well I might as well jump in. When I got done "restoring " my Husqvarna GT-2254 the mower belt and deck were giving me all kinds of wear and vibration problems. Hate to tell ya but drop the deck. Check every pulley for alingnment and any deformation like chips, kinks, bends ,and especially rust or pitting. I had to clean every pulley on my deck, all 5 of them with a real heavy duty wire wheel in an electric drill. You want all of the contact surfaces spotless and shinny, and perfectly smooth. Also make sure the two pulleys on youre mandrels are running true and also the bearings are ALL quiet and smooth. If not replace the idler or what ever is making noise. Now crawl under the machine and inspect the pulley on the bottom of the machine. It also must be spotles and true. Saw someone bend that pulley by hitting a piece of firewood. Anyway. After I followed this matainance on my machine it runs as smooth and quiet as you can want. A truly extreme check is before you drop your deck, remove all of the blades, start the machine and engage the mower. If everything is good you should barely hear the deck running. If it is making all kinds of noise then drop the deck and find them.. Takes a little time but you can check everything under there till you find some kind of a mechanical bug. I love the Kevlar belts they have at Tractor supply! Three of them on machines and they are holding up very well.

Today's Featured Article - A Lifetime of Farm Machinery - by Joe Michaels. I am a mechanical engineer by profession, specializing in powerplant work. I worked as a machinist and engine erector, with time spent overseas. I have always had a love for machinery, and an appreciation for farming and farm machinery. I was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. Not a place one would associate with farms or farm machinery. I credit my parents for instilling a lot of good values, a respect for learning, a knowledge of various skills and a little knowledge of farming in me, amo
