We got the 4000 HP compressor running this week, but cannot load it until October due to the warm weather, so I will have to go back.
The combustion specialists made it up from Houston, and I like to pick their brain. The main purpose of this project is CO and NOx reduction, a side effect is 3-5% fuel savings due to the computer controlled injection. The cam was originally ground for a Miller cycle, it is now reground for a hybrid Otto and Miller and the turbo has been re-wheeled to obtain more boost. The cost for the regrind was a cool quarter million, the cost for the whole project was nearly two million.
I also learned that formaldehyde is a by product of incomplete combustion, so engines running too rich produce a lot.
I am adding data logging and trending for the combustion parameters, so should get a chance to see the tuning effects when we run again.
