Glad your finally able to get some better weather. We have not had any rain here for two weeks. We have had plenty of rain for most of the season. Some crops on light ground are hurt by the dry weather but the majority is great.
I am like you in being surprised by how clean your oats are. Oats here usually get pretty weedy the later they stand. I would guess the cold/wet not only held back the grain but also the weeds. Most weeds take heat to really grow.
I hope your weather window allows you to get those combines before heavy rains. The straw would be nice to have for your dairy too. Do you shred straw for bedding in your tie stall/stanchion barn??? Lots of the guys around here have a gas powered shredder on wheels they push down the alley and it blows shredded straw where the cows lay. Others have sand for bedding. Lot of the "new" setups use mats/pads for the cows.
