When my wife and I were young we lived in the house my grandfather had lived in before he got cancer and moved to a nursing home. My pregnant wife visited him many times at the home and he died a month before our first child was born. My grandad was notoriously camera shy so there were almost no pictures of him. When my son was about 6 my mother was looking for family photos for a reunion or something while my son was visiting. He saw a wedding anniversary picture of my grandparents all dressed up for the anniversary party and my son said "I know him". When my mother asked he said "That's the green man. He comes and checks on me when I go to bed to make sure I'm OK". The thing is Grandad wore green Big B work pants and matching green work shirt every day of his life until he moved to the nursing home just before my son was born. Made a believer out of me. After my Dad died and I was looking after the farm for my Mom as well as working at the chicken factory I really felt like Grandad was riding to and from work with me. This carried on until my cousin died of cancer. I like to think that he went to watch over my uncle who needed him more after burying his son.

Today's Featured Article - A Question for Dads This recent topic from the Tractor Talk discussion board is being highlighted because it is an awesome display of the caliber of individuals that have made this site their own. The young person asking questions received positive feedback and advice from total strangers who "told it like it is" with the care many reserve for their own kids. The advice is timeless... so although it isn't necessarily antique tractor related, it will be prominently displayed in our archives to honor those who have the courage to ask and those who have the courage to respond in an honest, positive manner.
