I've plowed lots of snow with the same 6' back blade on either an 8N (no chains) or a Kubota B1750HST CUT with F & R chains. The FWA Kubota is FAR superior. Though lighter than the 8N, it is even superior without the chains.
With your 8N or VAC, you will need chains for any serious snow, and steering will become an issue, especially on non-level surfaces.
That said, a front plow is much preferred to a back blade.
Recently, I bought a Kubota RTV-X1100C with front plow so will be retiring the back blade set up.
