You need to see what the voltage is at the starter when your cranking the motor. Voltage X Amps = watts/power. So as the voltage drops the amperage increases as the power/watts required to crank the motor stay the same.
So a bad battery or cable can easily lower the battery voltage at the starter and then cause the solenoid to fail due to a high amperage draw.
If the voltage is good at the starter while cranking then you could also just have a bad starter.
As for the second post. I would have to actually look at the starter to see what this post is for. The electrical systems on the Dextra tractors is pain to keep working correctly.
