Mine works going forward. Works well on loose, dry material. Not so well if you cross over material that is damp and pack it with the tires. Also, it makes a hugh difference if the cutting edge is correctly shaped. Should be totally flat on the bottom and beveled on top. Has a handle to dump the pan. Beats a shovel.
