In Green Magazine there was an artical several years back about the guys collecting those pony engines and to the unbelievable extremes they go to getting some of them fixed. The funny thing is they really are a toy or maybe it would be better to say a miniature of a full size engine. Maybe a really big lawnmower engine. No that is not right cause as far as I can remember they are all water cooled. They can actually pre warm the tractors main engine before you engage them. Right? Please don't everyone start yelling at me, they are cool and back then they really did their job. When I was at Kinzer two years ago I watched a guy start up his big green machine and he had that little pony screaming! Then watch a big yellow Caterpillar start up and that thing had a pony too. Didn't scream quite as much but boy that is just enough power to turn over those big engines. I know on my Gravel Kohler engines they went from starter generators, then the smaller starters with wire fields and such, and then we get to permanent magnets. What leaps of engineering! You guys know that the Japanese invented those magnets. Even on todays cars they now have perminant magnet starters. They are tiny!

But, on the other hand, there is a secret language that our mechanical companions readily do speak. It is an interesting form of communication that involves all the senses of the listener. In this series we are going to investigate and learn the basic rudimentary skills of understanding this lingo.
