My rule of thumb. I have heard 500rpm. That is pretty quick but it is also one very very slow idle. If it is just going errrrah, errrah. You need raa raa raa raa. Ever see someone who is deathly afraid of chainsaws? You just laugh at them and then show them how to start it. Just giving my opinion. By the way. These new lite weight saws,,,you do NOT start them like the old saws of yester yore. You actually cradle it in your crotch. Guy showed me how and he was RIGHT! Popped right off no muss or fuss. They are so lite that the old ways don't work anymore. Watch the tree trim guys. They will show you how. ZAPPPP, and the saw is running with one pull.
