Some years ago, I pulled through a port of entry in Marysville, KS with a pickup on a trailer. The officer asked, "Is that pickup on the trailer for sale or for your own use?"
I told him it was for sale. He replied, "Dang it, I wish you'd have said it was for your own use. If it's for sale, I have to write up a bunch of paperwork and charge you a fee. Let's start this conversation over again. Is the pickup for your own use or for sale?"
I told him it was for my own use. (Wasn't lying. I probably used it a few times myself before I sold it).
Anyway, he grinned and said, "You're good to go. Have a nice drive".
He either didn't notice that my trailer was 6" too wide to be legal in Kansas, or he chose to look the other way on that, too.
