The post down below ,When is a Share wore out?, reminded me of something. Back 20 years ago maybe more I used to do a lot of plowing with a John Deere 4850 and a seven bottom variable width plow. Probably more than 2000 acres a year. Me and another guy with a JD 4650 and 5 bottoms would plow from sunup til sundown 6 days a week sometimes 7. There were times when I changed the shares,point or whatever you call them in your area at least once a week. Used to pick up 14 shares at a time from the dealer. Boss man used to buy grease by the pallet. I don't remember how many grease fittings were on that plow, but I used to carry two grease guns, one with a solid tube,and long lever to operate it the other was pistol grip and flexible hose. Greased the plow and the tractor every morning. OK, here's the point of this post. It didn't take long for me to learn that when I took the worn out shares off,and put all new ones on, I saved all the old nuts and double nutted the bolts that held the points on. Next time I changed the points/shares the used nuts had kept the threads from being damaged and the nuts came off easy. Try it next time you change points/shares makes things a lot easier. Plowing was my favorite part of that job, all by my self just listening to the radio. Liked it best when we were plowing on farms on the west side farms and I could listen to country music from Rice Lake
