Some of the cheaper brands will hum and interfere with electronics, They also don't hold up well.
LED's can be had in different variations of light and color, 2700k gives off a yellow glow like soft white incondesants, 4000k is a bright white, 5000k is day light moving into the blue spectrum and 6000k very bright with a fair amount of blue.
The electrical outlet where I get my bulbs say that some people complain that 5-6000k is to bright inside the house and can cause headache's when reading.
I use 4000k in the house and 5000k outside.
We changed from 100 watt incandescent to 25 watt cfl's in our poultry barns a few years ago which saved us a couple hundred a month on the utility bill, but the bulbs didn't last long and the flickering seamed to cause the birds to be flighty. We switched to 10 watt 5000k LED's last year and noticed a instant improvement in the lighting and the birds appear to be calmer, these lights are on for over 650 hours per month, so for only two bulbs have failed out of over 120 installed and they warrantied them.
Satco is a good brand of LED bulbs, Phillips is another.
