That is a hard call to give suggestions on, Poulan Pro saws are not bad provided you keep fresh, high octane gas in it, I use VP Small Engine Fuel in all my 2 cycle stuff, that way when I use it, no fuel problems or starting problems, it is a non ethanol, pre mixed fuel, about 20 bucks a gallon, but worth every penny to me, Now, on Husqvarna, a lot of the low end saw are Poulan saws, covered with orange covers, and Husqvarna stickers, so that would mean at least a 300 dollar saw to get a decent one, as for Stihl the lowest Stihl saw, in my opinion is an MS250, on promo right now for 299.95, 18" bar, anything smaller, MS170, MS180 not bad saws, but can be under powered and Stihl puts a light weight .043 gauge chain on them with a 16" bar. In my opinion, the best saw for the money is an Echo, but if you have no dealer close, that may not be an option, but then again, Echo is a pretty dependable saw, With ALL the new saws, they are high compression engines, and require higher octane, fresh fuel or they will eat their selves up inside from pre-detonation in the cylinder. all this is just food for thought, the dealer you work with is worth more than the price or brand of the saw, buy from the one you are comfortable with and feel will give you the best service after the sale

The advice is timeless... so although it isn't necessarily antique tractor related, it will be prominently displayed in our archives to honor those who have the courage to ask and those who have the courage to respond in an honest, positive manner.
