I had the same problem with an S-10 back in 91,or was it 92,anyhow it turned out a wire came loose at fuse box killing power to everthing on truck. Guy down at the gin had a red one that was always loseing power. He finally sold it to a mechanic because he couldn't find the problem. Mechanic cleaned the battery cables and drove it another 100,000 mile without a minutes trouble. My brother in law had a blue one that wouldn't crank and it turned out to be a bad connection between ground cable and engine block. Fella that work's at the feed store has been having the same problem on and off for 3 years as your grandson. Me and the mechanic found our problem with a VOM. My brother in law found his using a test light. Fella at the feed store asks people driving S-10s about it and still has the problem.
