I don'to live in a super hot area (northern Michigan and New York). That said, our batteries have to work pretty hard in cold weather. I recently checked the date on the two batteries in my Ford diesel F250 and they were 8 years old (Walmart brand). Still working fine but I replaced them anyway. I check dates on all batteries. Yuasa battery in my Ford farm tractor is 10 years old. Walmart battery in my Grand Caravan is 7 years old (from Walmart). Battery in my 2009 Ford Escape is original at 8 years old and is made by the same company as Walmart batteries. Going by my own experience, I do not believe new batteries "don't last."
