My sweetie sat by me every time through the 4 1/2 hour treatments. I know she was worried sick. I didn't realize how bad off I was. Should have gotten the message when they installed a "port" in my upper chest rather than do the IVs. Said the chemicals would burn out your small vessels and had to connect to an artery. They give you a sedative to keep you calm so things don't matter a whole lot. I worked cross word puzzles or dozed. Helped the time pass.
I had no symptoms for a long time either other than excess stomach acid....thought that was due to my bad habits and blew it off. I went in for an annual checkup and the Dr. said my white blood cells were excessive. Said I had internal bleeding somewhere. Suggested I get a Colonoscopy. I said I want a GI tract look see. Said I'd do the Colon if he would request the GI too.
Surgeon did the GI first and when she saw what she saw, she stopped the procedure and took the pictures to the cancer Dr. By then I was hurting pretty good and was ready for some help. All that hooplaw about "No way am I going to do chemo or radiation" is all a bunch of baloney. If you are hurting bad enough you'll do what it takes.
What's great is that in today's world we have the tools to fix problems like this and we have Medicare insurance to pay for it. $150k was the list price. Hard to attempt something like that on your own and besides Medicare negotiates cheaper rates that you can't on your own. Feel sorry for the folks left out in the cold.
