I rarely have ever used thermals, but is looking like this will be a cold year for me. However, I got a pair of Sorel boots when we got married. They lasted about 15 years. They have little wear, as I would only wear them when trudging through deep snow or when temps were below -20F, but the lowers finally began to crack and let water in. Still trying to figure out how to 'patch' them effectively.

Have another pair like them made by Arctic Cat or Arctic King or something like that, but I like the Sorels better. Love, love, love the gripper nubs on the bottom!! They work great in snow and on ice!

Unfortunately, I don't see these same "exact" boots being made nowdays. Here's some that are similar:

Another very good Winter boot are the Mickey boots. Can get them in either white or black:

As mentioned, extra liners are a must! As soon as you feel your feet getting wet, change out your socks and liners.

Now, one more thing I'll mention. My wife complains "constantly" of cold feet, even though she wears like 3 pair of heavy wool socks in addition to heavy winter boots! Same with her heavy coat and hat. She sweats in them a lot. I keep trying to explain to her that she has TOO MUCH warmth on. You'll actually stay a bit warmer if you stay a bit cooler. Think how in the summertime, your skin feels cooler when you sweat or when you spray water on your skin. Same thing in the Winter. If your skin is wet, the moisture will give your skin a cooling effect. That said, there are some folks who have poor circulation, in which case their best bet is to over-bundle.

Today's Featured Article - Listening to Your Tractor - by Curtis Von Fange. Years ago there was a TV show about a talking car. Unless you are from another planet, physically or otherwise, I don’t think our internal combustion buddies will talk and tell us their problems. But, on the other hand, there is a secret language that our mechanical companions readily do speak. It is an interesting form of communication that involves all the senses of the listener. In this series we are going to investigate and learn the basic rudimentary skills of understanding this lingo. ... [Read Article]
