There seems to be some nomemclature confusion here. I think that a "dirt pan" actually is the term for a plate (with or without sides) that slips over the forks on a manure loader so you can handle loose dirt with it. The implement that's being talked about below is more commonly called a "scoop", but it works something like large construction scrapers which are sometimes called "pans".
