My dad is 92, he got the shingles vaccine when he was around 89. He got the shingles earlier this year on his neck, top of his shoulder, and scalp. It turned out to be a fairly mild case with no major discomfort. I believe that the vaccine helped make it less severe.They really don't claim that the vaccine will totally prevent it. Not in all cases anyway.
