: i have a 1946 model b john deere that jumps out of third gear continuously. can anyone help me solve this problem.thanks I've repaired smaller JD where the problem was the spring for the detent ball was broken. I've read on the JD discussion page that badly worn bearings in the A and B and similar transmissions is a common culprit. A bearing that let the gears run crooked could wear the gears so that even with good bearings they might slip out of gear. But it sounds like attacking the transmission inside. Gerald
