Just a thought here, LOU... and that is ONLY IF your son would be permitted to eat a rich meal like Thanksgiving dinner (due to his colon surgery)...
But years ago, my sister had her jaw broken in an accident and had to have her jaw wired shut for months. She could only eat liquids through a straw -- so my mom used the kitchen blender to blend up her Thanksgiving dinner into separate cups (and added a small amount of extra liquid so it would go through a straw).
So sis had a small cup each of: blended turkey, potatoes and gravy, green bean casserole and a touch of jellied cranberry... all drank through a straw. She said though it was a bit weird to 'drink' her Thanksgiving dinner - it tasted delicious!
