Because I'm the Fire Chief, but when it was discussed only 3-4 of the 16 fire fighters expressed a willingness to learn how to administer Narcan, it was pretty much a majority rule so I enforced it.
Every med run we go on is to support the ambulance crew, we may get there a minute or two ahead but they are close behind.
We are a small dept with no EMT's or Paramedics. We're trained on the basic's of CPR and AED use, anything beyond that we are more liable to be sued and jailed for attempting to do a medical procedure than not.
Any OD calls we go on cops are also called, they carry Narcan and they almost always get there before us, we're limited to 65 mph with fire trucks so if any of my crew that out runs a cop with a fire truck they will be kicked off the dept for driving recklessly.
That in it's self opens up a hole nother can of sue happy lawyers if they have a accident in a fire truck will driving to fast.
