If you are talking about the hip to peak section. I would get an accurate measure of the distance from end to end. Then get a new hard wood piece the same size. Check while up there, if there is a notch in the timber for the hip that holds the top section rafters. If so then you will have to narrow your new piece to fith in the difference on the timber. then with it bolted in place just jack the top up till it holds the roof then bolt the top end in and forget about the rest. If you are worried about the strength then glue the 2 together along the sides. then bolt in a few places. I would just bolt the top and the bottom ends if it held this long the new one will out last you.
