Both of these units can have multiple cameras attached. One can have, I think, 8 different cameras! You can talk between the base unit and the camera(s) with 2-way audio. Range is up to 1000' in perfect conditions, and it seems these things will reliably perform well to at least half that distance. Should be no problem for your needs. The Vtech costs less, but hopefully this will help you with your decision.
As a last thought, if ever needed, you could always get a 2nd camera for your unit and have it at the front door facing your shop so that she could see if anything happened between there and the house. Word of caution though, these are NOT meant for outdoor use! Rain will likely eat these things up in a heartbeat. One at/near your front door would have to be well protected from the elements.
