a simple thing to do is put one of the used rings at the top of ring travel then measure the gap. should you get a gap of say .030 you are well worn out. its the bore and rings that wear. can you feel a ridge at top of bore with finger nail. if finger nail catches on it it should have rebore. also measure used ring at bottom of bore and this will show you the ring wear, as a new ring should have .003 to .004 gap for every in of bore. this is some simple checks you can do without having fancy measuring tools. as for the pistons it will be the ring lands that wear.
