This persisiant sub freezing cold weather will make the ohio river start icing over at Louisville ,..It Does that every now and then,..my dad was born 1n 1915,.. and grewup fast in the roaring 20s,,. i heard him tell this story serveral times .. when he was in his teens , they would have ice skating parties ,hockey games and dances out on the river ice ,where the river is a mile wide above the lock and dams, and maybe the water 3to 5 ft deep on the Jeffersonville Ind side where the water was still .They Had a Great Time complete with bonfires and beer gardens ,.. they would rope off the dangerous water that was moving above the falls and away from the moving channel ,,.. and all was well,,..One especially cold yr,the entire river frozeoverm,,. closing all river traffic ,,.. except ,.. in those days there was a toll to cross the bridge ,,.And YOU Guessed it !,,.. a few beat the tolls with their model Ts and found a good crossing that everyone began using ,,,.. sometimes crossing 1 hour after a boat went thru in the channel !,.despite POLICE tickets and warnings. ..serveral went in ,,Dad told of Kids that were racing on the river with their cars and broke thru into the channel one nite and were never , ever seen again

There is no known history regarding its origins or what service it had done, but the following work was undertaken alone to bring it up to show standard.
