Nice video there. Thanks for posting.
Boy, they were tough back in the old days. 3 men all sharing that cabin. Must have been a long dang winter with the only place to get out of the cold being that one little room.
Not sure if any of you guys ever saw this, but there was a really great CBC (Canadian Broadcasting Corporation) show called Pioneer Quest on about 10-15 years ago.
It was kind of a reality TV deal, but not all the drama BS it was really good. Two couples, one young couple in their 20s and a couple in their late 50s or early 60s had to set up homesteads like the Canadian pioneers had to do. They were given horses, tools, and typical equipment from back in the day.
I think it took place in Manitoba, but they had to clear fields and everything. They did a full year. It was terrific to watch, I enjoyed every episode. It is amazing to see how SKILLED the people back in the day had to be because everything you needed to do, had to be done by you with just your brain and 2 hands. If you didn't know how to do something the most efficient way, you made life real tough on yourself so you had to good at everything.

Amana Colonies served as a respite where we ate a family style lunch that sustained us with more food than could reasonably fit into our ample physiques. The show at Ankeny
