If you are experiencing gear grinding while trying to shift to engine rpm mode. You have clutch issues.
Your tractor has a 2-stage clutch and the second stage is not releasing. Could be as simple as it needs adjusted. Not so simple could be friction disc is stuck (rusted) to flywheel. Worse yet, clutch is coming apart and some stray parts are binding things up causing it to not release.
