You will find they are about 4 inch taller total. They recommend 18 inch wide rims. Here is an interesting thing: 20.8x 38 are the same height as 18.4x42 tires. This holds true up through the sizes. 20.8x34 equals 18.4x38 in height.
I have seen several tractors with 18.4 x 42 on the inside and 20.8x38 on the outside as duals. This way they have narrow tires for spraying and such but more tire on the ground for tillage.
As for your 16 inch plows and 20.8 tires. You will see the side wall mashed down with the wider tires. If I was going to play with tires sizes I would use step up rims and go to 18.4x42s. Keep in mind any of these switches is going to cost you a pretty penny to do. Look at how many acres you run and think about if you can justify the extra dollars.
