When I used to ride my GT Talera 21 speed mountain bike I "reconned" my favorite trail to be mostly up grades on the first half the ride and down grades the last half, made riding a lot more fun. Best ride ever though was Bidwell Park in Chico, CA...2-3% grade going up 7 miles in Sacramento Valley heat and then that nice refreshing coasting ride back down. Yeah, I know...a sissy's ride, but hey, I was 60 when I went back to pedal bike riding after 42 years of never being on one....self powered that is. I did some real mountain type riding too, but didn't like it....worse than the old gravel roads of my youth on my old one speed coaster brake fat tired Columbia bike.
