Yes, you need a tubeless tire to be run without an inner tube. In fact, even with tubeless rated tires I run inner tubes in ALL TIRES that run under 25 mph. I was tire buyer at FARMALL for three years. I had sevetal tubeless tires, 15.5x38, R-1 6&8 ply, R2-0 6&8 ply, and 18.4x34 R-1 6&8 ply and R2-0 6&8 ply, plus ALL 3-rib front tires. The percentage of slow leakers and tires that went flat over night was about 4-5 times higher on those tubeless tires. The percentage of leakers goes up as the tires age too. After 4-5 years they mysteriously go flat and refuse to hold air. Put a tube in them and they hold air.
I bought a brand new Cub Cadet Tank zero-turn mower 2 years ago. Right rear tire goes down in 5 to 10 days. I bought the tube for it, just need to install it. Had the same thing with my 982 Cub Cadet, prior owner bought tubeless tires. I put new rear tires & tubes on it a year after I got it, when it was about 10 yrs old the tubeless frts started leaking down. Installed tubes and no problems since.
ALSO, I'm going to say there is NO DIFFERENCE between a tube type rim and a tubeless rim. I never specifically asked the question, but in countless hours of discussing tires and rims/wheels nobody ever mentioned a difference in rims for tube type and tubeless tires. Unless you worked for Electric Wheel or French & Hecht, or Motor Wheel, or Stieger on their rim rolling line, sorry, but I won't believe you, so save your comments.

I was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. Not a place one would associate with farms or farm machinery. I credit my parents for instilling a lot of good values, a respect for learning, a knowledge of various skills and a little knowledge of farming in me, amo
