You can't stop people from putting your number in a Craigslist ad or any ad for that matter. It's always been this way. Anyone could take out an ad in a newspaper and put your phone number in it as a "prank" or "revenge." The difference now is people are starting to figure out that it's possible and easy to do, so it's happening more often.
There is always the chance that someone made a mistake and put the wrong number in their ad. When you figure out how to stop people from making mistakes, let me know what the secret is.
Also not everyone is a scammer. Some are just stupid. Like that guy who was asking about the tracks. Probably too stupid to see the price in the ad. Scammers don't waste time like that, they just flat out offer to send you a cashier's check and their delivery service will come pick the item up.
