Well, Stoddard solvent is the best for degreasing, but - it's by far the most toxic. Used in dry clean process for decades. It will cause impairment if inhaled often, and readily soaks into skin causing rashes, and leads to cognitive and nervous system problems.
So, if you use Stoddard solvent, use full gloves, and a respirator. But - it really works well. Not even sure how or where to buy it anymore.
