Yes at the very least you have to pull the drive shaft part of it so you can count the number of splines and if they are course or fine spline. I have 2 Ford tractors with loaders. One is a 8N and it takes a different shaft and spline count then the 841S has. I keep the old shafts around so that next time I can pick it up and know which machine it came off of and then do not have to tear into it till I have the part the next time it happens. Also a good idea to lube the hub/shaft when installing a new one. It help at least for a little while
