One of my Uncle's in the early 60's rented an 800 acre farm east of Rantoul, Il where the original half century of progress show was held. He bought two of the 1800's with the narrow fronts and gas engines. They did a lot of work compared to his old big tractor (JD 70) but he was shocked at how much gas they used. One of them had engine valve troubles and when the dealer dug into it they found out on one cylinder the intake and exhaust were in the wrong place. He wanted nothing to do with a diesel but with the high gas consumption he finely relented and got diesel tractors. I don't remember what he continued farming with until he retired in the early 80's. Another Uncle had a 1600 Oliver about that time. They were somewhat competitive but got along good.
