If it's either fiberglass or painted plastic take a disc sander with coarse paper and grind the paint off of it to a depth of about 1/32". Then if it's fiberglass cut a couple pieces of fiberglass cloth and apply it over the break with some fiberglass resin. You can immediately lay a second layer of cloth over the top if you are fast enough. It doesn't take but a couple minutes for the resin to set up. Once dry fill the rest with bondo, sand it and re-paint it. if you don't get the second layer on it when dry, just scuff sand it a apply the cloth with some fresh resin.
If it's plastic cut a couple pieces of fiberglass cloth and apply it over the break with epoxy for plastic. Again you can lay a second layer of cloth if you are fast enough. Then instead of filling with bondo do any filling with epoxy for plastic. It can be sanded and painted after it dries. If you are so equipped it helps to hold the break together to plastic weld it prior to putting the epoxy patch on.
