Does anyone remember the F7U Cutlass fighter plane? It was an interesting looking airplane, but never went very far because it was unstable at low airspeeds, among other problems.
Anyway, in 1954 I was attending avionics school at NAS Memphis, and they brought in a Cutlass to perform at the annual air show. One noon, at 12:10 pm, the pilot lost control of the Cutlass on final approach and the plane crashed into a classroom building. The pilot, a Navy CPO, and two civilian secretaries were killed. But--ten minutes earlier there had been 200 students in the building.
