Right now, in this location, they'd clean anything off that sprouted up. Grass is just turning a bit green, but still on hold due to sustained cold temperatures. It would end up a patch of weeds. Better to wait as their browse increases, less chance of it never getting a start.
You could work the area up, make sure soil is fertile, broadcast oats, disc those in, then depending on what you have for implements, sow the smaller seed on top with less cover.
I typically use oats for quick/easy growing grass with small seed mixes, kind of like we planted hay grasses. Maybe thicken up the mix with some grass or clover seed. I prefer a heavy population for a plot just to deal with weeds. Correct PH, and with as fertile of soil as one can make with what they have, can afford, results are usually satisfactory. With minimal fuss and some cooperation of the weather, you might just outpace the weeds and have something established for a season or longer. Cage off a section, see how much is grazed. Geese always get to my one plot, going to try a diversion patch closer to their pond.
