May not be the problem but yes a Distributor from other gas start diesels will work and bolt on where the mag is. They have very little or no advance and turn a different direction than the A through 450 gas tractors. Need to run a power wire to coil with a on off switch and remember to shut off electric power to coil after switch to diesel. Or change to a distributor type manifold with working electrical switching parts. IH also made distributor change over packages for MD tractors a long time ago. Don't know if you could block the advance in a gas distributor and get it to work right. Breaker plate is different in the gas starts so the points rubbing block contacts cam the same way as it would in like a SM distributor.
