: : My MF65 ('58) has a leaky gas tank that I havn't got around to fixing yet. : : As a result, I've only been putting in about a half gallon of gas at a time when I run it. : If I get the gas down to under half a gallon in my MF-135 it only runs on certain slopes or level and not on others. But sounds more like your gas tank rust has migrated to the filter, the fuel line, and the carburetor inlet screen, maybe the carburetor passages and jets too, so that the fuel only gets to the carburetor fast enough to support idling. You can check the system except for the run passages in the carburetor by removing the drain plug on the bottom of the carburetor and seeing how much fuel flows after the float chamber is emptied. I think you will find a very tiny dribble. I saw a carburetor inlet screen on a neighbor's JD2020 this summer that wouldn't pass air at 60 psi. It had exactly those symptoms, idled but wouldn't keep running. : Gerald Side note on the tank sealer; make sure you use one that is made for modern gasoline formulations. Many of them will dissolve if you put any alcohol in the tank, and many gasolines have alcohol in them. Bill
