The large truck manufacture companies have done this lately also. In 2012 I was told that I would need a new truck because eaton had quit updating the transmission computer on my 2002 truck. Most of the dealers didn't even have the ability to connect to that computer anymore. Now they can pull the codes and operate the computers on the trucks remotely. My brother in law drives a 2017 volvo with over 200,000 miles on it. They are having trouble with the emissions on it. Took it to the dealer they fixed it but couldn't reset the computer because the corporate headquarters computers were down.
