: : : : I'm trying to get the rear tyre off the rim on my Ferguson TEF 20. Any sensible tips on how to break the bead or seal? Thanks : : Lay the tire on a firm surface and slowly drive/back a tractor or truck over the rubber only and flip over and repeat for the other side. This applies rubber to rubber and gives enough force to reduce the bead without risk of injury. : Never had much luck doing it that way. See post below. I call it a duck bill bead breaker rather than a tire maul. If rim is rusted to tire soak it with penetrating oil first. I use a 5 lb blacksmith hammer with the duckbill. start by beating it under the lip of the rim till it hits the bead of the rim. pull it out and move it over the width of the tool and repeat. keep working around the rim. : usually when you get the whole way around once, it will start to move keep going around till it : breaks free. once a spot breaks free you can tramp around the tire with your feet to break it the rest of the way. Be prepared to sweat, it is : hard work. I've paid tire shops to change old hard tires a couple times and as I watched I learned that it was money well spent as the experienced limped off with bleeding tongue and wrists. (Tongue from biting to not be heard cursing by the paying customer! Wrists from missing the tire chisel with the 5 pound hammer.) Gerald
