True, but in a rollover event, you're putting a lot of axial stresses on the chain and will not get rated capacity. However, that "normally" is not where you need the most capacity anyhow.
The configuration in the photo is correct, but chain should be closer to 45-deg than the angle it is....if possible.
If the load weighs a lot less than a tractor (like the crate of feathers idea), then you could get by with looping the chain around the crate's bumper and to the other rail. *lol*
