Part one uses 2 chains, so each chain would have its rated capacity. However, as 71INT was explaining, the amount of that capacity as it relates to the load will vary according to several factors. One is the X, Y, Z angle of the chain. Another is whether the load is rolling (tractor, etc) or stationary (crate). When going over the top for a crate load, the friction created between bottom of crate and surface of trailer helps prevent fore/aft and side-to-side motion. If a tractor and going over the top, the only friction generated there would be the side-to-side movement of the tires.

....These days, I'm just happy when someone actually ties down their load. Too many times we've all seen people hauling things that are not tied down at all. Saw a video posted on here some months ago of....I think a Ford N model that rolled off the back of a trailer because the idiot was depending on it being in gear. No brakes, no chains, not even kite string to keep it in place! :shock:
